Parsun F8/F9.8 Engine Maintenance Material

Once a year, give your Parsun F8/F9.8 outboard engine a thorough inspection and service to keep it running reliably. Parts for Parsun F9.8 are often compatible with Tohatsu MFS8/9.8A3.

Annual Service Requirements

Anodes – Check/Replace

Sacrificial anodes protect your engine from corrosion. Inspect yearly and replace when more than 50% worn.

Engine Oil – Replace

Change the engine oil at least once per season.

Fuel System – Check/Clean/Replace

Inspect fuel lines, tank and filter. Replace the filter if clogged or damaged.

Gear Oil – Change

Drain and refill the lower unit gear oil annually.

Water Pump / Impeller – Check

Inspect the impeller for wear and replace if the blades are cracked or deformed.

Spark Plugs – Clean/Adjust/Replace

Check electrode gap and condition. Replace if fouled or worn. Parsun F8/F9.8 is a two-cylinder engine requiring 2 plugs.

Timing Belt – Check/Replace

Inspect the timing belt for cracks, wear or damage. Replace according to service schedule.

  • Cooling system: Check and clean
  • Greasing points: Lubricate all grease fittings
  • Idling speed: Check and adjust
  • Propeller and cotter pin: Inspect and replace if damaged
  • Shift link / shift cable: Check and adjust
  • Thermostat: Check operation
  • Throttle link / throttle cable: Check and adjust
