Regular Maintenance Schedule for Parsun 4‑Stroke Outboards

This page gives you a quick maintenance schedule for Parsun 4‑stroke outboards: what to check before every trip and what to service once a year. For a full guide, see How to maintain your Parsun outboard engine.

Daily Checks Before Use

Do these checks before each trip to avoid problems on the water. See the detailed list under Daily checks before use.

  1. Engine oil level – engine upright, oil between min and max on the dipstick.
  2. Fuel and fuel system – enough fuel, no leaks, secure fuel tank and hose.
  3. Controls – throttle, shift and steering move smoothly and fully.
  4. Propeller and mounting – propeller undamaged, engine firmly mounted, no loose bolts.
  5. Cooling – when running, check that water flows from the pilot hole.

If you run in salt or dirty water, flush the engine with fresh water after use.

Annual Service Requirements

At least once per season (or after the hours in your manual) you should:

  • Change engine oil and oil filter
  • Check/replace fuel filter
  • Clean/replace spark plugs and adjust gap
  • Change gear case oil and inspect for water (milky oil)
  • Check thermostat and water pump/impeller
  • Grease all steering and tilt points
  • Inspect anodes, propeller, timing belt and controls
